It’s Not Your Fault

What happened to you is not your fault,

and it never was.

The lack of love and care,

the coldness,

the disregard,

the abuse,

and the abandonment

that you received

from those who were meant to love you most

was never because there was anything wrong with you.

It happened because of them,

because they were wounded people

who were incapable of giving

you, a sweet innocent child

the love you so deserved.

So please don’t blame yourself any longer.

There is nothing you ever did wrong,

nothing you did to deserve the pain,

and nothing you could have done

to stop the horrors that you have endured.

Forgive yourself for taking the blame,

for not knowing how to love yourself well,

as you were never shown,

but today is a new day…

a day to set yourself free,

to be reborn into the warm,

welcoming embrace of your own love

that has been waiting for you all along.
